Starboy Is Back ⭐

Rumble in Ruchaize 5 | Soccerworld, Glasgow | AMC Promotions

Rio “Starboy” McDonald made a statement at Rumble in Ruchaize 5 — and anyone who thinks he’s all flash and footwork got their answer in the most emphatic way possible.

Competing at welterweight under the La Perrera banner, Rio delivered a dominant performance that ended in a unanimous decision victory, punctuated by two knockdowns — one in round two, one in round three. It wasn’t just a win. It was a message.

Five years of setbacks, doubt, and grind have built a fighter who’s now firmly on the radar. With back-to-back performances proving he carries genuine power alongside his slick movement, Rio has officially entered the WKA rankings among Scotland’s top five welterweights — and every fight is proving he belongs there.

The night was a big one for La Perrera across the board. Jack Broughton put on a masterclass to successfully defend his WKA Cadet British title against Cieran McIntyre, taking another unanimous decision in a fight that had the crowd on their feet. The evening was capped off by the heavyweight showdown everyone was waiting for, as John “The Juggernaut” Hamilton stepped up against contender Orin Bailey in a barnstormer of a main event.

Soccerworld was rocking from the first bell to the last — a roaring success for AMC Promotions and another proud night for the gym.

2026 is shaping up to be one hell of an exciting year. Stay locked in — and if you’re interested in training with Rio, head over to the Coaching page to get in touch. ⭐
